Westchester Community Foundation Grants $10,000 to TGCW

The Guidance Center of Westchester (TGCW) is pleased to announce a grant of $10,000 from Westchester Community Foundation. The grant money is to cover the costs of cleaning supplies and PPE for staff who must continue to have in-person interaction with clients, as well as for increased mental health support in Mount Vernon.

“We are so grateful to Westchester Community Foundation and the special Westchester COVID-19 Response Fund,” says Amy Gelles, CEO of TGCW. “In these extraordinary times, our professional staff who provide community-based services must have proper PPE as they continue to go out and provide treatment to those who are most seriously impacted by mental illness and addiction.”

Ms. Gelles goes on to explain that several TGCW staff continue under COVID to meet with clients on a regular basis in order to ensure that psychiatric medications are administered and that clients are adhering to treatment protocols. “Now more than ever, we want to ensure that our clients are following their care plan and keeping out of emergency rooms.”

The funding will also help ensure that Mount Vernon residents who need mental health services will be able to receive them, regardless of their ability to pay. “COVID is taking an emotional toll on everyone, and money should not be a barrier to help,” says Ms. Gelles.
