Self-care 101
We all read a lot about self-care, but what is it? Jonathan Morgenstern, LCSW, clinical director for our integrated services, gives us a quick explanation.
One of the biggest parts of being an adult is one’s responsibility to take care of oneself. Self-care may be seen as comprising of:
Rest: physical rest as well as spending time not working or even thinking about work.
Nutrition: taking in foods that are both healthy and pleasurable.
Socialization: spending time with beloved friends and family, meeting new people.
Recreation: exercise to make one’s body work well and feel well, which also makes us feel well emotionally.
And – FUN: doing creative stuff like arts and crafts – writing poetry, stories, memoirs, making jewelry, woodwork or any other activity that is enjoyable.
Our life should be good, and we should do everything we can to make it so.
