$100,000 support for FutureWorks
FutureWorks sets young people on a path to success.
Westchester Community Foundation (WCF) awarded The Guidance Center of Westchester (TGCW) a $100,000 grant to continue the FutureWorks program as an offering through the Center for College & Careers.
“As COVID-19 continues to impact the lives of our youth and change the trajectory of the workforce, Westchester Community Foundation’s commitment to FutureWorks allows us to make a difference in our youth lives,” says Amrika Sieunarine, director, Center for College & Careers. “Our youth are being empowered, trained, and credentialed to start a career in the construction and related industry sectors. We are thankful for WCF’s support of our work, our young people, and our community!”
2021 marks the third year of FutureWorks, a FREE trainings and certifications program for Mount Vernon and New Rochelle residents ages 16-24 who have an interest in a career in general contracting, the construction industry, highway construction, utilities, security, and other in-demand trades. Participants receive training in core construction skills and green technology. In 2020, the program expanded to include an Urban Handyperson course, which includes hands-on work with tools. The 2021 WCF grant continues those components and adds a pilot for a 90-hour Energy Auditor Training with curriculum developed with Consolidated Edison. Participants will earn an energy efficiency auditor certification.
Ms. Sieunarine says that the next FutureWorks session is scheduled to begin in February. Interested young people 16-24 years old from Mount Vernon and New Rochelle can register here or receive more information by emailing FutureWorks@TheGuidanceCenter.org.
FutureWorks is presented by the Center for College & Careers in conjunction with Soulful Synergy.
The source of the grant is the DeWitt Wallace Fund for Youth - WCF.
