TD Charitable Foundation Supports Latina DropIn Centers

The Guidance Center recently received $2,500 from the TD Charitable Foundation in support of our Latina DropIn Centers. The grant will help support and expand programs at the six Latina DropIn Center sites in New Rochelle, Mamaroneck, Port Chester and Tarrytown.

TD Bank Vice President, Retail Market Manager, Adam Kintish, visited the DropIn Center at Columbus School in New Rochelle. And, while the temperature that day did not break the freezing point, the dedicated moms were out in force for their weekly meeting, showing the high value the women place on the DropIn Center. In addition to presenting the check, Mr. Kintish donated TD Bank reusable shopping bags to each participant.

Amy Gelles, executive director of The Guidance Center said: “It’s gratifying that TD Charitable Foundation recognizes the positive impact our Latina Drop InCenters have on the participants, their families and their communities.”

For the 2009-2010 schoolyear, the six DropIn Centers expect to serve a total of 100 women each week. In addition, childcare is provided for approximately 20 preschool-aged children each week. Trained professionals help the young students by focusing on school readiness and encouraging the parents to utilize toys and books in learning activities at home.
